Saying the late comedienne and award-winning actress Betty White was beloved by many Americans is an understatement. Admired for her Emmy award winning roles in numerous memorable television programs, Ms. White was also a respected animal advocate. She wisely used her fame and popularity to bring attention to this cause which was close to her heart.

Passing just weeks before her 100th birthday, fans across the world celebrated Betty's passion for bettering the lives of domestic and wild animals by participating in the #BettyWhiteChallenge. This grassroots effort raised over $12 million to support animal shelters and rescues around the world.

 

Loving Betty's work and commitment to animals myself, I led Griffin Pond Animal Shelter's participation in the #BettyWhiteChallenge by creating a completely digital campaign to not only raise much-needed funds for the shelter but also to promote adoptions. I joined these two aspects of animal care by developing social media graphics that paired photos of adoptable animals with bits of Betty's wisdom linked to the donation page.

 

Working with the local media to encourage public participation, the campaign raised over $20,000 in one week for Griffin Pond. The generosity of so many people was incredible, and I am glad my efforts with the local media and social media helped so many furry friends.
