benefitting United Cerebral Palsy of Northeastern Pennsylvania,
Scranton, PA

While the other two pages in this section of my website focus on fundraising, this one centers on solely building awareness of an important cause. Prior to working for United Cerebral Palsy of Northeastern Pennsylvania (UCP of NEPA), I did not realize the multiple facets of this condition along with the other medical and social issues many of the people served by UCP of NEPA face.

To help the community gain a better understanding of these struggles, I continued to champion awareness about CP and other disabilities by refreshing the organization's annual awareness campaign. The campaign, which takes place every March, coincides with Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, National
Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day on March 25, and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

Working with a limited budget to share our message, I developed a marketing plan which combined paid and organic advertising via print and digital media channels including

  • a layout featuring an article and advertisement I created for Happenings Magazine of Northeastern Pennsylvania;

  • an interview in The (Scranton) Times-Tribune, a local newspaper which supported our efforts by featuring the Go Green! cause in its weekly "In Times of Need" feature;

  • and social media and email content to connect with our donors and the community at large.

By using these tools, the public responded by "Going Green!" with us and our clients. They posted photos of themselves donning clothing and accessories in CP's awareness color with the hashtags #GOGREEN and #UCPofNEPA. Together, we helped the public better understand CP and, more importantly, that a person's disability does not define them.
